Pray for Haiti’s people. A country of 9 million souls in roughly 935 square miles lies devastated tonight. Homes destroyed, aftershocks, hundreds, perhaps thousands still trapped in the rubble with the clock ticking for their survival. The capital city leveled, the infrastructure destroyed, the dead, dying, wounded and the living all forced into the streets. Around the world, people with loved ones in Haiti desperately waiting for word from the quake zone that the people they love yet live.

The world is mobilizing. Haiti is only 1.5 hour flight from the shores of Miama.  Pray that America will be quick and lead the world. Pray that it is the humanity of Haiti’s people that dictates the world’s response, rather than the color or the poverty of its people. Pray for God’s mercy and favor to fall upon the people of Haiti like rain in this dire hour of need.

After you get up off your knees, go online and send money through any of the reputable channels available. The Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders and the Yele Foundation are three great places to start. The fastest way to donate may be by text. Text “Haiti” to 90999 to donate $10 to the American Red Cross relief efforts. Or text Yele to 501 501 to donate $5 to Wyclef’s Yele foundation.  A great list of organizations serving many kinds of needs can be found here.

On ABC News tonight,  I watched as they chronicled a terrible tale of human suffering, devastation and loss. What I saw and what I could imagine based on what I could see was horrific. Yet I also saw something else. At the end of the report, before the journalist left the area, they captured on film Haitians praising God. No clothes, no homes, no food, injured, no idea what may become of them, yet they were still able to break out into spontaneous praise and worship to God, in the midst of their misery.

Pray for Haiti; then send money. Then pray some more.
